No room for catch can?

I've looked at every video out there and concluded that installing a catch can would be easy.

Not if I can't find room for it. When I try to attach an L-bracket to the factory fitting on the firewall, there are several things in the way that don't allow the catch can to drop into place.

Is there something about the 2013 R56 S that is different?

Maybe a better picture of your engine bay would help, also which catch can kit you purchased…

My $0.02… A catch can isn’t needed in the N18 engine.

Here is a larger picture if you needed a broader perspective as a reference to the location I first showed.

My point was that I had to slip the wire bundle off the clip that holds it to the side of the air filter housing. I prefer not doing that but I'll find osme othe rway to secure it.

What is different about the N18 that leads you to say that a catch can is not needed on that particular engine?

The PCV system was redesigned for the N18 revision compared to the N14 engine. The N18 PCV vent to the intake is built in to the cam cover and cylinder head. As such, the N18 doesn't get carbon build up as much as N14, so it won't benefit from a catch can the same as the N14 will. You can certainly put one in line with the vent tube that goes to the turbo inlet, but that's not the main connection for PCV venting.

Ah…

Thank you. Yours was the first intelligent, informed reply I’ve received on this. Facebook is a mess when it comes to these
things.

I will go ahead and do this install to whatever extent it limits oil going to the turbo. For the valves, I’m counting on top
tier fuel and some judicious use of Seafoam to forestall any carbon build-up on intake valves.

Since the engine is direct injected, the fuel never washes over the valves. So, anything you do in the fuel tank will have no effect on the carbon buildup in the intake.
