2011 MCS - Puddle under car when A/C off - NOT Coolant
Hi All,
I've owned my 2011 MCS for about 2 months now. The first month I spent replacing gaskets on the oil cooler and oil filter housing, and also the thermostat. The car is finally not leaking coolant, but I've gotten into the obsessive habit of checking under the car for leaks after every trip.
When my wife gets home after using the car (she always has A/C ON), I notice the normal puddle of water that drips from condensation due to the A/C. But no coolant, thank goodness.
But... yesterday I took the car to the dentist. It was beautiful outside - 79 and dry (rare for NC in the summer), so I rolled down the windows and left the A/C OFF. When I got back, I noticed the same dripping under the car from the A/C system. It was definitely water (not coolant), and it was coming from the same place as when the A/C is on.
I know that many cars will run the A/C when the ***** are set to window defrost, but the **** was halfway between -> and ^>v (about 4'oclock on the dial below)
The only logical explanation is that the A/C condenser was running, but it was definitely not turned on by me. Does someone have an explanation for this? Is there something else in the car that uses the A/C system?
Maybe it was crying because it doesn't like the dentist... "yesterday I took the car to the dentist.".
I think you've got it... cars use the condenser depending on the settings. I actually don't like the fact that there is NO off button (same with radio). German engineering!
