R56 Low Pressure Fuel Pump

So, here's a weird one I'm having trouble figuring out. I changed the fuel sump and filter and the fuel pump at the same time and of course in true mini style it won't start. The fuel pump doesn't turn on. I started checking all of the circuit components and replaced io1068 just because. So I put the old fuel pump back in and broke the new one taking it out. DOH! No joy. I started testing voltages to the pump and I have 12 volts at x11010 and when I put a light probe on that pin, effectively completing the circuit, the fuel pump relay energizes and the pump runs. So now everything appears to work relay side of the DME. I pulled A60004 and put my probe on pin eleven and the pump runs. Pin 11 is the DME fuel pump activation transistor that I believe goes to ground to start the pump. I used Deoxid on the connector and pins put it back on, put the key in, pushed the start button and the fuel pump came on for about 2 seconds then shut off. First time this has happened with the key/start button combo. If I pull the key and reinsert it, press the on button again, no joy. If I crank the motor 1 time and pull the key, put it back in an press the button the fuel pump comes on for about 2 seconds.

All codes are clear and it doesn't generate new codes when I get the pump to run. The codes I did clear were not related to the fuel circuit. The battery is at 12.5 volts and is new. I also replaced the radio the same day with an aftermarket Kenwood. It works awesome.

Any insight to this or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Did you replace the fuel pump assembly or only the fuel pump? If only the pump I suggest to replace the entire assembly. I had a similar experience with one of our other cars, the pump was replaced successfully but didn't work. In the end I replaced the assembly and walla magic all set.

Where did you find just the pump?

I was about to say, it sounds like you figured it out in your post, but then I realized you figured out you have a working pump but your car doesn’t start. I’m assuming it cranks at least?

You’ve changed your filter. I can’t confirm this personally, but it seems if you don’t have it properly sealed, your car won’t start. There are plenty of cases on the forum discussing this. Many stress the importance of making a mark to ensure it’s tightened properly, but perhaps if you have the right tool, simply torquing it to the proper specs would work. Outside of that, I’d recheck all the connections on the filter and seals, rings, etc.

Good luck! I’ve got my own crank no start issue giving me a headache, lol

Here's a link to my own case, for those with the goodwill and savvy to offer any nuggets of wisdom:
