Brakes

Did a unexpected hard stop. Ever since brakes have been going half way to the floor before catching. They do pump up. Assuming it is the master cylinder because I do not have any abs or other warning lights. No leaks that I can see and reservoir is full. Anything else I should check before replacing the MC? Reading Bentleys, do I really need the scan machine tool to bleed the abs/brakes after changing the MC? Have both a pressure bleeder and a mityvac. Prefer the vac bleeds, lot less messy.

Do your flushes. it took a couple days to find a new master cylinder. Not an easy job to change the MC. Airbox/engine computer have to be pulled with associated ducting. Old fluid looks like a weak cup of coffee. Probably original fluid. Mityvac did not work. Need a pressure bleeder. Pulled mine out and set to work. Initial flush was good, old fluid and lots of bubbles. Pedal still feels a little soft in the garage. Will give a road test tomorrow. May need an old fashioned pump up the pedal hold and bleed as a final procedure, saw something about that in bentleys, but got too late to investigate more.
