Friction Wheel Question

Today I replaced the water pump on my 07 Mini (N12). After putting everything back together I noticed that I can turn the water pump pullet, although it takes some effort due to the friction. I didn't check for that prior to taking everything apart so I have no point of reference. I do know that the car never overheated while driving it and I only replaced the pump as a precautionary measure (it still had the original plastic pump). The friction wheel and belt appear to be in good condition.

It would be nice if somebody could check on their own car and tell me if that is normal or if the water pump pulley should be complete locked by the friction wheel.

Thanks for helping out.

Friction wheel and water pump

You can turn the water pump by hand even when the friction wheel is engaged.

Click on here to see a short clip I just took.

Thank you for taking the time and making the video. I did order a new one anyway and replaced it while I was replacing the serpentine belt. And yes, even with a new friction you can turn the pump, not very easy though. Spent an extra $90.00 but on the plus side, the whole cooling system is new now.

Thanks again.
