Hi,

Weird thing happened today to my 2011 MCS. I was backing out of a parking spot, and as soon as I took it out of reverse, something happened and the shifter is at an odd angle. It's left of where 1st and 2nd would be, but there's no reverse. I only have 2 forward gears that feel like 3rd and 4th. Anybody else experience this?? I was able to get it to my local mechanic. Hopefully it's nothing major.

Sounds like one of the shifter cables either became dislodged or broke

 

Seconded. A shift cable broke or became disconnected.

 

Yup, shift control cable. Thankfully it wasn't the transmission!! Mechanic replaced both of them. One had snapped, and the other was pretty frayed he said.
