Newbe question

Hi everyone! First post on this forum.

I recently bought an unmodified 2010 MCS in pretty good shape, 55k, runs good. The only drawback is that I don’t have a clue what has been done in terms of maintenance over the years. I called Mini and they don’t have any records of maintenance for this car.

Since we bought it as a summer car and because we live in Canada where winter lasts almost 6 months (you read right, 6 months!), I will have plenty of time to do preventive maintenance this winter. First off, I’m planning to do the valve blasting and the timing chain replacement. I read online that there’s an updated timing tensioner but I can’t find any info that tells me what the difference is between the old vs new? How do I know I’m getting the new one? Anyone know?

Also, can anyone point out what is the best timing chain kit available out there and where to buy it from?

I know I’ll have a lot of questions in the next few months so thanks in advance to all of the contributors.

Thanks DVLDOG.

Is there a recommended interval to do the timing chain given the issues these N14 engines have?

My pick is 50K miles if you have the original tensioners. Or immediately the moment you hear the death rattle.
