R56 Planning on going Manic stage 2. I want some opinions!
Where you getting this from?
Why nobody is even talking about whats NEW on Manic Mini website?
They now have OBD2 Port Flashing available and its for R56's. http://www.manicmotorsport.com/
1) up top hit "R-Series"
2) Hit Gen2 Information and scroll down
Tell me what I'm reading wrong, if that's not what it says.
@ Mario Palza: that was a typo.. I meant to say " was NOT worried about passing". I remember our conversation. No worries with your tune.
@ OP - there is no remote OBD2 for r56..you have to send in your ECU the first time. From there..you can "load" a preflashed MAP from your ECU. It's not the same as full remote OBD2 like the gen3 cars though..as those you do not remove ECU. So, yeah.. what is advertised isn't exactly reality. Many folks assume from reading that the flash for r56 is the same as gen3..thats not the case though.

I can personally vouch for Mario Palza. He tuned my R56 MCS with the Manic Stage 1+ tune 3 years ago. I live in RI and shipped my ECU to him in CA. I had my ECU back withing 36 hours.
I HIGHLY recommend NGK Iridium 1422 (ILKR8E6), gapped at .022
I ran the Manic tune on brand new OEM NGK plugs for about a year. They worked "fine" but I noticed engine sputtering/timing being pulled in hot weather when dipping into the throttle in 6th gear, below say 60 mph. My guess is the spark plugs couldn't "absorb" enough heat in the combustion chamber leading to pre-ignition. (Spark plugs also serve as heat soaks in some ways). The move to "colder" plugs made the engine much smoother and more powerful. Like night and day really. Should've done it sooner.
As anyone can attest, a Manic Tune absolutely transforms the car. I had the tune for 2+ years with no problems at all.
On a completely unrelated note;
I traded in my 'R56 MCS for a MK6 GTI w/DSG last summer. While I really like the GTI, I really miss the MINI!!!! The 2 cars couldn't be more different. The MINI was undoubtedly much more fun to drive but more difficult to live with on a daily basis. The MINI never calmed down, always goading you to do something stupid (like drive really, really fast, take off ramps at 75 mph
). The GTI is very relaxed when just commuting but fast and capable when you want it to be (fast in a relative sense).
If you MINI fans are wondering which would win a race in Mexico, a stock GTI w/DSG or a Manic Tuned MINI... I'd take the MINI all day. That thing was a beast. APR Tuned GTI vs Manic MINI would probably be a draw. But the MINI would still be more fun by far.
My rant went on too long.
