Rebuilt engine locks up when turning by hand?
Finishing up my engine rebuild and I have bored the cylinders to 77.5 mm and now I am working on the timing. I have rotated the crank at least 3 full revolutions, but now it doesn't want to move at all... Any ideas?
This is an "interference" engine --- if timing is in-correct,(oops! pretty stupid mistake) valves MAY run into the pistons. Also, hand rotation, when timing chain is installed, must be done ONLY in the CW direction, when viewed from the passenger side --- Vanos doesn't like CCW. If you turned it over before adjusting timing, you better start over with the timing adjustment. Hopefully, you're using the Bentley manual or applicable TIS for guidance. Maybe mention the year / model, engine, etc?
