Press down device

About to pull the camshaft out on my n14 to replace a bad lifter, anyone done this without using the mini tool press-down device (119660) - can you push the cam back down by hand? or are the screws on the bearing caps long enough to grab? Thinking I might bodge a lever together if necessary but wondering what sort of pressures the compressed springs are putting on the cams at 90 and DIYing it could damage the cam shafts...

Question answered by Mini Adventure

Looks like the screws are long enough to grab down the camshaft - as long as you torque down slowly across the shaft don't see any reason to buy the $500 press down tool....
This
shows the step pretty well - for all the timing chain videos out there had to look far and wide for a camshaft video - the Ina lifters must be way better engineered than the timing chain
His other videos are also damn good - way better than my Bentley manual

Just finished a complete engine rebuild. Didn't use the spec'd tool, just tightened the bolts evenly, to minimize bending the cam.
