Battery location/HVAC

I was looking for a place to run the wires for my new driving lights today, and looked into the battery box area. Looks like a good place to run new wires through. As I was looking, I saw the cabin air filters intake side, noticing that it feeds from the battery box area. My thought was this....if your battery fails in a BAD way and there is sulfating, where would those gases go? Looks like directly into the HVAC system! That does not seem to be very safe to me! Has anyone else noticed this, and have any thoughts? Maybe I am a bit paranoid, as I have seen batteries do all kinds of nasty things. Just seems like a bad place for a battery, or a bad place for an intake for cabin air. Anyone as paranoid as me? LOL.

Yeah I noticed this too when I swapped out my battery. You should have a little tube running to the side of your battery to vent it safely to prevent this. I worry more about the fact that the air does not pass through a cabin air filter so you just get raw incoming air from outside, seems like an over site.
