R56 Turbo problems
Turbo problems
I just had my 2008 mini s looked at. The guy said I have a turbo oil feed line that needed replaced. I thought I did so I'm good with that but he also said he thought my turbo was bad. How do I know if I need a new turbo. The car doesn't smoke but it does drive sluggish and falls on its face. It idols bad also. It will not go. You can hear it still dumping air. Help!!!!
For the oil feed line don't use the OEM go with the one from Detroit Tuned. About the same price if not cheaper and it will never fail again.
Also check the diverter valve.
Are you getting a CEL? And is so what is the code?

We totally recommend this Turbo Oil Line Kit. It will fix all of the leaks in that area. As for a bad turbo, it could have shaft play which you can feel when the car is cool, or a bad waste gate that is half open of closed. as well as the problems you have now. but i can also be a vacuum leak. maybe drive the car a bit harder one day to see if you can get a SES light, right after you check your oil level.

Recently replaced my turbo.... the wastegate was the turbo power killer.... diverter did not help much. Once you have the car in service position and remove your cat - draw a vacuum on the wastegate actuator valve - it should easily and freely close (I forget the vacuum amount). What you will see is that when the shaft/bushing is worn - It will stick and no amount of vacuum will properly close it... thus... lack of power, surging power and eventually turbo codes when it stops supplying any boost. My car runs like new now - very smooth with full power. I did not realize how crappy it was until I replaced it. If you need one - get a new one not a re-built ( do not ask why I know). I got mine from Way for a lot less than Mini is selling them for. Good luck!
