Turbo Oil Feed line and... ?

I'm getting ready to replace my turbo oil feed line, oil filter housing gaskets and oil cooler gaskets all as preventative maintenance. This is a 2011 fJCW with the N14. Current mileage is 64,500. Unknown maintenance history.

I have a couple questions.

1)Do I need to put the car in service mode? I thought I did but I see that others have done it without. I haven't put the car in service mode but it originally came from TN and I've not driven it in the salt so rust *shouldn't* be an issue. How long does it take to put in service mode?

2) Is it worth doing a down pipe? I'm pretty happy with the acceleration of the car. I assume I'd need a tune with a different down pipe. Plus I have no idea what kind of DP I'd need/want. I'm not sure if I'll ever track the car. It's my fair weather car.

3)Can all this be done with one person? The last thing I read is that it will take a couple days with two people...

Thanks.

1. No you don't, I was able to complete everything you are doing without putting the car in service mode. Toughest part was the lack of space to get the lower heatshield bolts out, and removing the oil filter housing block from the engine. Adjusting to service mode should take you maybe 10-15 minutes, but my car was too rusty to move the subframe.

2. You don't need a tune with a different downpipe, it'll work fine. Catless DP is usually the way people go for a little more power and more noise I did it for a month or two and found catless is quite loud and can drone on the highway. You will get a check engine light because there's no cat but it can be programmed out with a tune if you want. You will have to remove the current DP to access the turbo oil line so it makes sense to install a new one during this install if you wanted.

3. A friend helps a lot because they can stabilize your ratchet wrench from the top while you twist from the bottom, so I would recommend having a friend.

I must be getting old. The car is loud enough with the JCW system on it so no catless DP for me. Thanks for the response!

No problem, good luck with the repairs The dealer found the coolant leak at the oil filter housing gasket during a spring service checkup, and quoted me $1140 to replace that single gasket alone. Instead, I purchased the detroit tuned super kit for about $150 and spent the other $1000 on intercooler and DP. Sold the DP for no money lost and put the intercooler in my new MINI.

I am interested in the intercooler. It gets pretty hot in Ohio during the summer and that's the main time my car gets driven. I'll look into that at a later time. Only so much money in the pool right now.

I replaced my oil turbo line from underneath the car and realized how much EASIER it would have been when I replaced oil filter housing gaskets in service mode. It only takes about 30 minutes to go into service mode and you save hours doing so. You can easily do it yourself in service mode. They say you have about 6 inches of room in the front in service mode but I had closer to a foot.
