Radiator cooling fan not running

2007 Mini R56, automatic transmission, standard Mini, not S

Month ago radiator fan not working. Local tech replaced the octopus-shaped plastic thermostat housing, which was leaking. Fan worked.

Check engine light came on after couple days. Don't recall the code but it was something about temperature sensor. Replaced the temp sensor as shown here.

After about a week, the fan is not working. Check engine light is NOT on.

I connected my code scanner and pulled two codes, although the CEL is not on:
P0117 -- engine coolant temp input low
P112B -- don't know what this one is

Could it be my replacement temp sensor was the wrong part?

Anyone know what P112B is?

Thanks.

Thanks. I detected another issue -- heater does not seem to be putting out hot air. I ran engine for five minutes, turned heater on full blast, ran temp setting up to 72 deg, air coming out of heater vents was between cool and slightly warm. Backed off the heater blower speed, same thing . . . never did get hot air.

I'm 85 miles from dealer and don't dare drive it without radiator cooling fan. Guess I'll have to gete it hauled to Richmond and suck up big $$$ for repairs.

It sounds like the coolant is low, possibly due to not being bled properly? I say this because you obviously don't have coolant circulation through the heater core.

Yea, air in the system will do this. It has to be bled and re bled to get all the air out. DIY here:

Thanks to all for your suggestions.

I found the coolant bleed screw -- black plastic hex-head with X slots, located on the thermostat housing directly behind the temperature sensor.

I followed the bleeding instructions, finished by filling the overflow canister to MAX. Heater now blows hot air, however, fan is still not running even after engine has been running for several minutes.

I'll fiddle with it next week . . . we have a storm coming, I'm an Advanced Life Support EMT with local volunteer rescue squad, so, I'll be staying at the squad building next couple of days . . . we are in isolated rural area and need to be ready to respond during the storm.

One question: About the coolant bleed screw -- is it captive, or, if I unscrew it too far, will it fall out, down into the bowels of the undercarriage?

I unscrewed it until there was a good flow of coolant coming from it but was concerned that I was going to lose it.

I'm pretty sure the screw will come out completely if you keep unscrewing so just enough to get flow is good. You just need to allow the air a way out. The car has to get pretty hot to get the fan running and that can take some time if it is just idling. I would take it for a drive and then let it idle in your driveway. The fan should come on if a few minutes.
