Negative Camber?

I've looked for threads to this, but can't seem to find any... I want to work on correcting the understeer on my '07 S. Before replacing the rear sway bar, a mechanic friend has suggested changing the camber a bit. Do any of you have any thoughts or suggestions about doing this? How much would you go with the adjustment, if at all?

Thanks

The struts have a white pin in the top of the strut tower that factory sets the camber. You can pull the pins with a pair of pliers, then loosen the nuts on the strut towers and gain a bit of camber. Note that you will be affecting the toe when you do this as well. Search for 'free camber mod' and there should be pictures and more details. This will get you to around -1 degree camber, IIRC.

I was happy with the Ireland Engineering fixed camber plates, which I was able to get adjusted to -2 degrees. There are also various adjustable camber plates available.

It will make a difference, but probably not as much as you like. the RSB is a nice change.

Have fun,
Mike

Yes like he said pulling the pin and sliding in the mounts is the first and cheapest way to add some neg camber.
But going with a rear Hsport Comp sway bar is the real solution for getting rid of understeer.

Negative camber always helps reduce understeer, though I typically like closer to -2 (which means the plates, not the "free" adjustment unfortunately) for the liveliest turn-in. Either way make sure the toe is adjusted back to spec (or go 0 if you really want it lively), since that is what will actually kill the insides of your tires.

I can't argue with a swaybar, either!

Rear sway bar upgrade (19mm) really fixed my understeer, even on the lowest setting. I have since stepped up to the middle setting. Even better now! Stock suspension, minus the RSB and the better end links front and rear, and a bit wider rims and tires.

Look in the Modifications/Suspension forum, lots of stuff there.

Agreed with all of the above. The "free camber mod" will help, is quick and only requires basic tools. RSB install is something you can do in a few hours with some jack stands and a decent socket set.

I found that the RSB made a noticeable difference, free camber mod it was hard to tell. Like mbwicz, what really made the difference for me was the camber plates and adjustable rear control arms, then an alignment for -2 degrees all around.
