R56 Engine removal
With that you may have to remove the tranny with it which makes it even smoother. Well, At some point you will need a repair manual. But to start, you need to:
1- loosen front axle nuts
2- remove the mud guards
3- remove the plastic trims of the fenders
4- free the bumper cover and unclip all electrical plugs
5-remove the front grill to be able to completely remove the bumper cover
6- unscrew the two bolts are the top, two bolts to K subfram, and three nuts each side of the radiator support
7- disconnect all water hoses
8-empty freon lines and disconnect from lower right corner of radiator support.
i think with this, you will have the nose off.
then you need to remove the passenger axle and the rear motor mount along with the exhaust.
then basically remove anything that is attached from the back including the alternator wiring and starter.

I always hoist it from the top with the nose removed. but to do that, the passenger axle has to be pulled out and driver side freed from the spindle.
I did my rebuilts out in the open

I did it with leaving the AC system connected. There's enough flex in the lines to pivot the condensor away. I held it away with bungee cords.
I pulled the engine straight out the front. I recommend pivoting the engine/trans about the transmission end.
Keep the AC compressor supported so it doesn't hang on the lines. Make sure you disconnect the alternator cabling. It's kind of hidden and attached to a channel on the passenger side of the bock.

In case anyone comes to this thread looking for instructions, I have put together additional instructions.
