R56 Camshaft???
Camshaft???
Is it possible on an R56 N18 motor? I see they have them for the R53. What would be the benefit and and approximate gains? Would it raise the RPM Redline safely? Thanks for the help in advance!
There are various can options for the N14 (Schrick, CatCams, etc..) but nothing for the N18. The problem is the Valvetronic system on the intake cam which includes intermediate rocker arms and springs. There are no aftermarket spring options for the intermediate arms which is a show stopper and BMW refuses to publish the specifications necessary to replace the camshaft and rockers as a matched set. Without knowing that, cam replacements will result in chatter and premature wear.
The factory N18 springs can reliably hold 6800 RPM without float. On the N14 Supertech springs will get you to 7200 RPM and handle 30+ psi with no issues. Even in race applications I've tuned we limit RPM to 7200. After that carbon build up on the intake valves tends to come off in chunks with bad results.
