R56 Be careful this weekend
Be careful this weekend
This week i was just hit broadside in my 2013 mini cooper s. The 86 year old lady driving a 2013 KIA optima was lost and waiting to make a left hand turn on to the parkway when she thought the coast was clear and put the pedal to the medal. Hit me in the drivers door and rear quarter sending me onto the sidewalk and thru a chain link fence to end up in the woods along the Grand Central parkway. Reason for reporting this was the airbags never went off and i climbed out of the car without a scratch. I was very impressed with the way the car held up. The fire dept got the car out of the woods and with the side bashed in and the front of the car a mess the car started up with no leaks and i was able to drive the car home. Of course the drivers window would not come up because the door is bashed in but the door opens and closes nicely. The car is in the shop now and i thought they would total it but they said it could be fixed for approx $9,000.00 and the ladies insurance agreed to it as she accepted full fault. She had just come back after visiting her 96 year sister and was upset over being lost. I waited for 3 hours for the police to arrive and make an accident report. Watching how people drive and make turns would make some people give up driving. Hope everyone has a nice and safe holiday.
I've already hit my quota for accidents this week, was sitting at the red light waiting to turn left when an oncoming car blew the red light at 55 MPH and t-boned into a car crossing through a green light, bounced of that car hitting me (not my Mini
) head-on then hit a third car to my right. This particular intersection has a loop around sharp turn and often drivers coming down this incline at 55+MPH don't see the intersection until it's too late especially if their not paying attention, which is why if you don't see the flashing lights warning "signal ahead" it' too late!
I'm just glad it wasn't my Mini!

An 80+ year old lady was killed around these parts yesterday when her car caught fire after making a u-turn right in front of an oncoming pickup. My 80 sumptin year old MIL ... well, that's another story.
My wife hit some kind of animal on her way to work at 3:15AM Friday morning. There was no visible damage to the front end, but I had to replace the radiator support and the auxiliary water pump. The front of the pump was broke off. Coolant was pumped out by the aux water pump in a matter of minutes. I had to have it towed home.
