Looking for a splitter(preferably carbon fiber) that I can buy for under 350. I saw that the BLACK M7 is under 300 while the carbon fiber one is around 360. Do you think if I was to wrap the black splitter it would look good or trashy? Or just spend the money on the carbon? Also do u guys recommended any brands for front splitters with hardware a for under 350
Are you doing the splitter for looks? Many people wrap non carbon and carbon fiber components easily. You could even wrap them in a carbon fiber wrap and it should look fine. Honestly, I run a front splitter and rear diffuser for track purposes and did not purchase carbon fiber due to a few reasons. 1. cost and 2. if it gets damaged on the track it's a much cheaper replacement. I do have a carbon fiber hood that I absolutely love and there is a difference in look between a CF wrap and real carbon parts. It just depends on what you ultimately want. I'm assuming you wont be tracking it, so being afraid of damaging it might not be an issue for you.

thanks so much for the info! how would you wrap it..take one sheet the side of the splitter? but what about the wrap around or would you cut each side perfectly so they don't overlap?

You're welcome. You can use a CF wrap from 3M and either install the splitter onto the car and then just wrap the part of it that is visible or wrap the entire thing while it's off the car and then install it. You'll want a big enough sheet that can cover one side of the splitter fully. For the wrap around, you might want to continue it over it so you don't have a seem there. You could start on the bottom potion, wrap it over to the other side and then just have it stop for the portion that will be mounted to the under body of the car (since that'll never be visible). If you're not familiar with doing wraps, you could have the CF wrap professionally installed on the splitter before you install it on to the vehicle. Might be easier, but almost might amount to the price of what the CF one is vs. the non CF one, unless you just wrap the part that is visible.
agordan1337, I sent you a PM this morning.. I've been making these for years out of Lexan ( race car windshield ) and cover just 1 side, trim off excess and put the front edge trim along the front to protect the front edge from rocks and or the vinyl peeling up. More pics in my gallery.
Personally, I had a the guy who did my custom rear diffuser make me a custom front splitter because of the same reasons I listed above. Being scared of trashing manufactured products that cost way more, plus my tuner and other people all have theirs custom made. It looks like N2MINI makes a nice custom one. @N2MINI does it extended all the way back or is it just attached to the lip?
Otherwise, M7 makes some quality ones that we sell.
Does not go all the way back under the engine as it would hit the OEM air diverter under there, which would have to be cut off to do that. Mine butt up to that piece on each end and then bolt thru the bumper cover. I can.t say how much down force they create but have had them on cars that during track days have exceeded 130 mph. You DO NOT want to just zip screw mine or anyone's splitter to your bumper cover. It will not hold. I have 9 bolts with washers on both sides holding mine on. You can see mine bolted on in a bottom view pic in my gallery.
For an R56, wouldn't it just be cheaper and easier in the long run to go with the MINI Challenge front splitter?
This is a proven, fully functional and tested design and relatively easy to mount - no additional bolts required or mounting hardware needed for stability or structure. It is integrated with the front bumper cover, taking the place of the usual bumper trim piece/splitter.
I purchased mine from ECS for about the same cost as any of the splitters out there and it was an easy swap and looks factory JCW, not something tacked on afterwards.
You can also get it hydro-dipped in a carbon fiber look.
Plus one for the hydro dipping. *Can't compare to real carbon fiber*. But if you want it just for looks: hydro dipping weights next to nothing and when it's clear coated the finish is super strong.
Can't beat free DIY though. Only money in mine is the braces, had mounting bolts already laying around....
Obviously, you're a special case. Everyone else, do yourself a favor and just pay for the splitter that is race proven and is an easy install - no additional bolts or mounting hardware to screw into your front bumper cover. You'll be happy you did.
Have a JCW that is lowered 2" and use an M7 TEGRIS front splitter. People think it's carbon fibre ( I don't give a damn) but it's VERY strong and carries a great warranty. I live in RI which has about the worst roads in the USA and we are ALWAYS scraping or bumping something. The M7 TEGRIS splitter is a great piece.

Thank you BMC...I have always wanted to be special. This is an easy install... and, if you follow the advice, holds at over 100 mph...good enough for me. But, what do I know

I've seen them fail before on the road with spectacular results. Who knows why but why take a chance?
Everyone else, go with a race (actual race! not 100mph down the highway!) proven factory design - one that has also gone over 100 mph!
We're not knocking the piece at all, that is the way most people would like to go probably but, not everybody has 300 to spend. I wanted something like that myself years ago for my but once I went Aero Kit that was ruled out of course. So I made my own. If you mount a splitter even remotely correct with bolts and washers etc and not zip screws and are not banging it off every çurb you pull up to it will last a very long time. Lexan will not crack unless it is very cold and you hit something then maybe. Course some are made out of other material. If your hitting curbs etc you don.t need/want a splitter

I'm totally making one as well now. I'm all about "Built not bought" and those Front supports are the same on almost every small race cars. My nephew races quarter midgets using as radius rods they are four bucks.

That's really not what's meant when people say "built not bought".
