Hey guys,
I have a 2008 MCS/117k miles with a loud knocking noise which sounds like its coming from the passenger side. I should also note that I have had the car for a few years now, and this is the first time I have heard this sound.


Anyone heard this before and have any ideas?

In my "un-expert" opinion, knocking coming from the passenger side could likely be timing chain issues. Its a vastly common problem on the R56, had it replaced a few months back myself.

 

Yup, most likely the timing chain slapping around in there. Lots of threads on this on the early second gen Mini. You certainly have enough miles. You really need to get that checked, if the chain slips, big bucks to repair..
