Lost 2nd Gear FML

2007 R56 Cooper (manual) has officially lost 2nd gear.

It all started with a grinding noise upshifting into 2nd.

It popped out of gear and now when I rev into 2nd, it grinds and goes nowhere.

So now I shift 1-3 and of course 3rd gear is starting to grind . . .

80,000 miles wtf?! Anyone else have this issue?

$1,000+ for a used tranny + $1,000+ to replace/install

My car is only worth about $6K.

Debating whether to even fix or abandon Mini altogether.

I think it all depends on the condition of the rest of the car....

Why would you even consider abandoning the MINI. That makes no sense.

If the car is worth $6000 and the repair is $2000 then of course you fix the car. It's much more cost effective than the alternatives and the car would be worth $1000 with a broken transmission.
