Replacing the timing chain on a non-s cooper?
I know i've been posting a lot and i'm probably getting annoying but i have one last question.
I finally took my car to a specialist and he said it was my timing chain that skipped teeth. Is there any possibility that it could be included under the mini warranty? the motor is the n12 and has 53000 miles the car is an 07.
However if it is the timing chain what am i looking at for costs?
Thank you

Sound like you are out of warranty , you could give them a call and see what they could do, some people right out of mileage warranty can get a " good will " from the dealer and they cover it. They will have to inspect it first.
Worth a try.
Otherwise you will need a chain kit and then have to inspect to see it there is any other damage, like with the valves and piston .
Good luck and I hope they can help.

However, chains don't just "skip teeth" in a normal course of operation. You can remove the valve cover and observe damage to chain rail guides that would hypothetically allow for this possibility, but even then the chain tensioner would have to have failed entirely. Ir the cam sprocket bolts have loosed and allowed the sprocket to turn, but then it would have kept turning and destroyed your valves by now by hammering them into piston.s Neither possibility is strictly impossible, but both are not likely.
Dealer chain swap job is quoted on N14s at 11 hours of labor and ~$2K (I assume N12 is similar).
Or you could DIY it (if that is what the problem really is) for about $250 in parts. But you should be comfortable locking the cam and crankshafts, disassembling the passenger-side wheel well to get to the rail guide bolts (belt and tensioner need to come off), and have a decent assembly of metric tools.
