Purchased a 2012 Mini JCW about a month ago. Has 42k miles so still under Mini warranty. Loving it so far but.... Two days ago it had trouble getting any rpm up on a cold start, after a few mins it seemed to warm up enough to function. No codes.
Fast forward to today. My wife calls from work stating it has a message on the display saying "Engine Malfunction, Reduced power" I suggest i meet her at the local Mini dealer. They were about to close for the night so nobody could look at it. However when i went to move it closer to the door, no problems, no message.

Any ideas on what could be up with it? On a side not i am a little disappointed it does not have the signature Mini pop and gurgle from the tail pipe in sport mode. Wondering what can be done about that when it is in for warranty.

 

There will be a stored code, leave it with the dealer. At least you have some warranty left. On our 2012, the last time I got the reduced power alert, it was a failing VANOS solenoid. But in all honestly, without knowing the code it's anyones guess..

 

Got that at 70K on the clock. It was the VANOS solenoid and the HPFP, all done under warranty. Quick fix from the dealer.

Mini dealer called a while ago. It was a faulty HPFP. They have replaced the pump free under warranty.
