Very weird spot for an oil leak, can it be fixed?

So I took my Mini Mango to the mechanic because I spotted some oil on the snow (living in Toronto) and after a day of cleaning up and we were able to identify where it leaked (Red Arrow). The leak seems to be above the crank shaft, basically a port that goes no where?

My mechanic placed some super duper putty glue (I m not sure what it is) but he said it would be able to prevent it to leak.

Anyhow, it just seems very odd to me, can any experts here shed some light? What potential issues am I dealing with?

Thanks a lot.

I can't quite tell what you're pointing to--maybe the timing cover gasket? I doubt that any kind of glue will work for you. Engines need to expand and contract as they get hot and cool off. Epoxies are not going to expand and contract to the same degree and at the same rate as the motor. I think it's time for a mechanic upgrade.

Accordingly to my mechanic, to replace that part, is the replace the entire timing chain cover. I m sure MINI Canada will be charging a huge amount for that part alone.

It is not part of the timing cover. It part of the block. You cannot buy the plugs separately from MINI. You might be able to track down something the same size if you spent enough time looking. We just silicone over them, there is another one right above it. We use the BMW silicone that MINI recommends for the oil pan gaskets and it works fine. It is a lot cheaper than a new motor.

Thanks EuroTechzAZ, I'll head over to MINI Canada to grab a bottle of that. 1 problem down, another problem to deal with, some weird noises (grinding) when accelerating.
