Does it have to be Mini scan tool or can I use my $179 scan tool that also does air bag and ABS to register my battery?

Schwaben tool will reset the battery. Yep its on some that have navigation in earlier years, have the IBS.

as will the Foxwell. Note in the FOX' case this means this tool LOADED with the SPECIAL BMW/MINI load. THEN it has the ability to reset the IBS.

Note IBS is not a part of the 'standard' OBD codes and altho many makes now have IBS it appears the 'how too' is not the same (my Mazda has a special load available for FOXWELL too) A 'generic' OBD may not cut the grass.

I have heard of garages/battery/parts stores able to do this now ... you CAN buy a GOOD scanner and get ALL the optional loads .....

BTW my FOCUS ST has IBS and the reset process is a sequence of turn the key, tap brakes, press trip reset ..... and then the battery lite flashes 2 times and good to go (this is a generalization ... NOT the sequence) Just like how you reset the oil change reminder on a GEN1 . . .
