So a 2012 cooper S with a JB+ and a decent intake would be a good start for mods right? Think that would be a low 14 sec 1/4 mile time?

What is your definition of decent? What do you want to do with the Mini? It all depends on you want, are you going to track your Mini or is it a hobby or is it just your daily commuter? Mods don't do anything unless you get a tune to account for more airflow from a better CAI, same for the exhaust.

I'm glad mine came with one for long highway drives or sitting at stupid-long traffic lights. But I do admit it can be rather annoying. The sliding pad cover on mine likes to randomly slide back a bit when I don't want it to. At least it can flip up out of the way, and worst case I can tether it to stay there.

I believe he was referring to his E92 and it's HPFP issues.

Just for driving around, no track time.. I use to have a E92 and I miss the power..Obviously the Cooper wouldn't be as close...But maybe cut the gap some with a JB+ and intake? Not sure what you mean about a tune, isn't the JB+ a tune.

Technically no, the JB really isn't a true tune. For better parameter control and output levels on a N18 engine you will need a bench tune. Or if you're close to a Manic dealer they can tune your car with the ECU still in the car.

What does that $500 get you? Do they have a dyno, or any info at all on the tune itself??
Don't judge a book by its cover. Jan is damn good at what he does. Not knocking any other vendors, but his products & services are second-to-none. If I were you I'd give him a call or drop an email before writing off RMW as a tuning & performance option.

This.

A buddy of mine got a '10 MCS a week from me from the same CA over at Irvine. After 8k miles, his HPFP went out. After less than 20k miles, 2 more times. Needless to say he was able to lemon his MINI and he went back to having a M3. lol. At that time, I was hoping mine would go out too, but that's history and I'm still here.

So JB+ says 20 hp 30 tq is that realistic before a true tune?

I've never heard of this, with the BMW a JB+ was suffice..No extra tuning needed.

A tune is when a tuner plugs into your ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and programs his special tune to gain more hp and torque, you either get a JB+ or you get a tune, you can't tune a car with a JB+. It's one or the other. I can't speak to the JB+ hp and torque claims.

I wouldn't call it a tune, more of a way to trick the ECU into thinking you have low boost therefore increasing boost. It's a manipulation of data, a tune is a carefully reprogrammed ECU.

Another question...(don't want to create 100 new threads)

What does the 2011-2012 Cooper S hardtop run in a quarter mile??

I didn't think they were as fast as this site states, 14.4?!

That's a difficult question to answer, so many sites claim different numbers. Who is driving, what kind of tires are on the Mini, too many variables to deal with here. You shouldn't be concerned with a quarter mile, just drive one and if you enjoy driving a MCS buy one or not. I didn't buy my MCS based on how fast it was, I bought it because it's fun to drive and corners like a go-cart. Soon I plan on getting a Manic tune and will be thankful for any increase in power to enhance my driving experience.

Is 14.4 on the low side? I thought it was around 14.7-14.9 range.

With my modded '07 I've ran a 13.9 before. That was when I was running Battle/DNA stage 2. But it was luck I think, b/c I almost never launch my car. But it happened. So Stock, I'd figure it could be around 14.5 or so.

Really?! JB+ only? That's crazy fast

With the JB+ on the defauly setting, is that the 20 hp 30 tq gains Burger is referring too? Or are those gains on higher settings?

I know for a fact he didn't have a DP on. He had some other mods. And he had his R56 slammed.

I do not have the JB+ but have read several threads on it and I've never heard one complaint about the improvement in performance/acceleration. It's $300 and clips on in 2 minutes, can be removed just as fast. Someone with an MCS says it puts it on par with the JCW (which I have), and it's been used on factory JCW N18 cars they use lower percent setting. I had thought they made one for the N14 but could be wrong. I am not interested in it myself because my car is fast enough like it is!
