R56 Mirror Caps
Mirror Caps
Has anyone ever installed either the side mirror caps or the rear view mirror caps? Looking to buy the Black Jack accessories and didnt want to pay the dealership fees.
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
it's quite easy to remove the old caps and install new side mirror caps… all you need is a credit card-like piece if tool and pry it out slowly from the top working your way from the left to the right. to explain better, do a search on youtube. rearview mirror caps come with a self-adhesive tape in it and it just simply goes over the rearview mirror. hope this helps and happy motoring!
The inside rearview mirror cap is almost effortless. It's just peel and stick and you're done. Takes about 15 seconds to install.
The outside mirror caps are also quite simple. Aim the mirror glass all the way in and down. At the top right "edge" of the mirror, you'll see a clip (if your caps are black, you may need to shine a flashlight in there to see them). Place a blanket or towel on the ground under the mirror, in case the cap falls. Using a butter knife, simply push on the clip, and the cap will pop off. To install the new one, just align the clips and snap it on. It's super easy and takes about 5 minutes to do.

Yea, For the interior rear-view mirror its mostly peal and stick.( Make sure the mirror outside is clean ). If you have the option for the the manual flip or adjust mirror you have to slip it around the bottom **** , but not that hard at all. Has a cut out for it and the area around the neck of the rear interior rear view mirror.
For the side mirror the cap are a little more work. Here is a video.

There are Powerfold in mirror and non powerfold in mirror caps on the outside. For the Center mirror its based off of auto dim and non auto dim ( manual ). Let me know what you need.

Both .....it takes about 10 minutes to do the mirrors. I agree with the thin plastic piece and sliding it to release the tabs. And as mentioned the review mirror is peel and stick although I didn't stick. You don't need to do it as it stays by itself.

OK... Here's my problem.. I got the OEM Black jack mirror caps, and the right side fit percectly. Left side.. not so much. The clips inside the caps are different, and the caps are of different size. Thinking that someone must've replaced the non-powerfolding left side mirror with a different size, I ordered a replacement from Rock Auto, and marched the part numbers. When it arrived, I tried to snap the new Black Jack cover on to the new mirror arm. Same problem. I compared the cover that came with the replacement arm, and found exactly the same thing. The clips are oriented differently from the Black Jack covers, and won't fit on the new mirror arm.
My question to the board is... Why is there a difference? Is there a difference in the size of the covers for the power folding mirrors?

I believe since the motor is down there the overall shape on the underside is different. Use our site on the OEM parts as a reference as some of them have pictures. My guess is someone replaced it at one time.
