radio feedback or echo sound

I've got a new 2013 MCS (bought new from the dealer). Something I've noticed is that the radio has a sound that is like feedback or echo. It's almost like what my house sounds like when two TVs playing the same station in different rooms where the sound on one is just a fraction of a second ahead of the other. It comes in and out out, maybe one to five times per minute. I couldn't find anything here in a search, but I'm not even sure of the correct term.

Is this a known, common problem that people know about and put up with?

Thanks,
Mike Todd

I get this same issue now and then, it only happens with HD Radio stations as they loose signal and shift to standard FM signal.

To see if it's the radio, switch stations, if it stops you know it's a signal issue. If not, it's your radio.

In an attempt to make myself seem stoop-it, what exactly does HD radio refer to? I get "high def" but is that an option or standard? The only thing special about my radio is that it's listed on the sticker separately as "Satellite Radio" or something like that for a $425 option (and this option is in the car). Not too sure about the details of this since my radio looks like all the other standard radios in the other cars at the dealer. It does control satellite radio and I have my year's subscription, but at least turned off, it seems to look like all the others. Incidentally, I usually listen to the two local (Los Angeles) NPR stations on the standard radio or my own iphone music. I can't remember if this issue is present during iphone playback or satellite radio. I'll have to experiment.

Thanks,
Mike Todd

I think Dan nailed it. I see this this once in a while, and yes you do have HD. Crack open the owners manual. You'll see options for turning the HD on and off. Handy if you don't get good HD reception and you just want to lock it into regular FM.
