2011 Mini Cooper S

About to pull the trigger on a used MCS from 2011. Did a VIN search and the production date is 09/17/2010. I know there were timing chain issues and water pump issues the were addressed in later production runs.

Based on my production date, what should I look for?

Have any of you called Mini dealers with the VIN and were able to get the service history? or is there somewhere online you can access it?

Thanks.

A carfax will show service history, but only if it was reported to them. Service at an independent shop won't be on there. You can call MINI USA to see if there are any outstanding campaigns (recalls). I would listen for the cold startup rattle and if it runs and drives good current service is what matters. GL

ask the dealer for a service list of what was done on it. TSB's on the 2011 included the oil pressure sending unit leaking oil...needing engine harness replacement, hpfp typical failure, visor recall, and a/c compressor pulley noise fix.

add to that a faulty thermostat. I've had that, a leak with the oil sending unit, and my hpfp all replaced on my 2011 MCS. I'm pushing 48k on the clock.

No issues on my 2011 Cooper S. 30,000 miles. I have the N18 engine. Make sure this one does too !!

I have 70k miles on my '11 MCS. My thermostat and firewall wires were replaced under warranty. Out of warranty I had my hpfp, valve cover, and endlinks(replaced three times, third time with Detroit tuned stainless steel). I had for 15 seconds a warning ABS light but it never came back. It could be faulty sensor but I'll wait when it appears again.

Oops forgot to mention warranty work, timing tensioner and solenoid valve. No oil leaks or anything like that. Just change your fluids every two years besides your oil changes(every 5k) and so on.
