Winter fun (first real weather for the MINI)

Got to try my 2010 MCS in snow for the first time today! We got 1/8" of ice, then sleet, and 4" of snow on top last night. After digging out, I went for a spin just for fun.

I still have the stock Continental all seasons on her. After testing out the traction and braking on my street, I headed out.

Car did great! Better than my Envoy on Yoko M+Ss. Drove onto the plowed banks, stopped, and restarted several times. Went off in the grass (on purpose) to try it out. Same great traction.

The roads are still untreated in residential areas and the main road was hardpack and ice. Got into the boost several times as well as hard on the brakes. So far, I don't see any reason for winter tires in my area.

That has been my experience here in Iowa, too. Did your ABS and traction control activate?

Yes and yes but I was intentionally mashing on the pedals checking to see how she responded when 1. I didn't have to get somewhere and 2. There was noone around to hit. Was very surefooted.

That's great to know! My 'Justa is equipped with the "standard" 15 inch wheels and I drove a hellish 7.5 hours from Baltimore to central NJ on unplowed route 95. BMWs and Audis were fishtailing and spinning out all around me (made me nervous) but my narrow tires followed the groove tracks and I kept going.

I drove my '07 MCS in the last snow storm in I495 New England area. The highway had about a quarter inch of powdery snow in this 30 miles trip for the most part but worse in some parts. The traction control system kept my car going straight without issues at 20 to 30 mph. I was very impressed how well the handling of this car in the snow storm.
