Traction intervening when off?

So I encountered something strange with my JCW.

I Switched traction fully off (holding dtc down for 3 seconds) - it displays the traction off warning on the tach.
I pulled away fast going from first to second, now on a normal car it will chirp the tyres and continue going. However in my experience, the power cut completely, it held the carr back for a few seconds then it went.

On my previous R53 I did not have this issue

Is my traction faulty or is this normal?

Are you sure you actually turned it off. It usually needs two presses. One press puts it in DTC mode, mine says "Traction" at that point. Then a long press turns it to EDLC mode which is as off as it gets. I get the slippery road icon in the tach and it says "DSC off".

The actual display when it's off may change depending on year.

Edit: though it does sound like you still have DSC , in DTC mode mine only "hiccups" when it intervenes, not bring things to a stop.

Jcw only has DTC with EDLC.
It doesn't bring it to a halt, it's what it feels like if traction had to be on. Power cuts off completely till wheels get traction.
Yes I'm sure it's off. Got the warning signal on the tach. When it's in DTC mode it doesn't constantly show on the steering tach.

that is due to the typical over-controlling German engineering....

you can "turn off" traction controll........but it never really fully shuts off.

ive encountered this with my R56s.....if the roads are a little wet and i give it some gusto off the start, once i hit ~3K in 1st gear, the traction controll kicks in and the car feels like it just stops moving.

i just changed my driving habits to counteract this, i usually shift to 2nd at ~2500 rpm and give it the ***** once im out of first.
