R56 Coolant temp sensor question
Coolant temp sensor question
Alright guys I am new to Minis, I tried to search the forum for this and have had zero luck.
Back in July I picked up a 2007 JCW Mini, drove down south to pick it up. The owner ended up swapping out the thermostat for one that is 1 step cooler. Thats all fine and dandy, but since it has turned cooled here its been throwing a SES light. It has been more regular since its consistently cold outside.
It makes sense in my head that if the engine coolant temp isn't getting up to where the computer likes to see it would throw a code. The code its throwing is P0128.
Is this as simple as swapping out a bad coolant sensor? Or would a factory temp thermostat do it?
Question number 2 do they offer any sort of aftermarket "chip" to adjust for a cooler thermostat? I had another car and we where able to do that with HPTuners for a GM.
Thanks guys and gals, I love the car its just a few little things I need to get figured out.

Im not sure how he managed that since the thermostat in the r56 is built into the big black housing on the side of the head with all the coolant pipes going into it......basically you cant just change the thermostat in this car you change the whole unit sensor and all. I might be biased since I work at a dealership but I would call mini with your vin and get a part number for the thermostat that belongs on your car (and get it online/talk the dealer down to a realistic price) before I even thought about anything else.
