Factory turbo Question

So as I was installing my downpipe, I noticed what seemed to be a valve inside the turbo, I haven't researched much and its un familiar to me, under the turbo is a all-thread rod which has a nut on it and seems to be able to make an adjustment. Rod looks to head into the recirc. Valve, is this all one assembly? Am I totally wrong? What would come from adjusting this nut? Primarily ask because it got bumped a few times not sure if moved or not but if it needs to remain where it was I'd love to know. I dug around the forums dug online can't find anything on this.. If anyone knows or has a link to chatter of it please post up thanks

as far as i know it has to deal with the turbo being a twin scroll turbo

this is an excerpt from wikipedia

Twin-scroll or divided turbochargers have two exhaust gas inlets and two nozzles, a smaller sharper angled one for quick response and a larger less angled one for peak performance.
With high-performance camshaft timing, the exhaust valves in different cylinders can be opened at the same time, overlapping at the end of the power stroke in one cylinder and the end of exhaust stroke in another. In twin-scroll designs, the exhaust manifold physically separates the channels for cylinders which can interfere with each other, so that the pulsating exhaust gasses flow through separate spirals (scrolls). This allows the engine to efficiently utilise exhaust scavenging techniques, which decreases exhaust gas temperatures and NOx emissions and improves turbine efficiency, reducing turbo lag.[33]

A picture of the rod and nut would be nice.

It is the wastegate. It acts as a relief valve to control boost.

The rod is connected to a diaphragm that sees a pressure signal from the compressor side of the turbo. Once the pressure is great enough, the diaphragm moves the rod which opens a valve and the exhaust gasses bypass the turbine.

If this wasnt in place, the turbo would make, theoretically, infinite boost. This would cause all sorts of damage to the motor.

Was getting pics posted up but app needs an update I guess, but exactly what's shown in that one there. Now understanding what it is just haven't seen one quite like it. If I make adjustments to this rod however?

The waste gate actuator, all thread rod and canister, is controlled by vacuum. It is calibrated for the waste gate in the exhaust housing. It is adjustable, but shouldn't need it unless the diaphragm is not holding vacuum as well. Or if maybe the waste gate is getting loose on its axis hinge point.

If you were to order a replacement turbo and actuator you would see markings on the shaft showing that it was calibrated to that setting
