Ambient light disable?

Any way to turn this off? I searched and all I found was a thread where a guy's girlfriend didn't like them and everyone told him to dump her. I want mine disabled for a more practical reason: when I do a right shoulder check at night before changing lanes the light on the B pillar draws the eye and harms contrast when looking out the window. I've set it to the least distracting setting I could find which is dim and red, but off would be better.

In that thread it seems like the consensus is that there's no way to turn it off. Maybe you could try coding the lights out? Or a much simpler way would be to just block those B pillar lights with electrical tape or a small piece of cardboard or something.

+1 on just blocking it. The "AIRBAG" oval pulls off very easily and putting a piece of electrical tape on the small square of the back would be easy to do and easily reversible if you ever decide you want them back.
