Sorry to hear. I actually just heard back from MINI USA also today. They talk me because I didn't do oil changes at MINI and because the car was purchased at a non MINI dealership out of warenty, that they couldn't cover any of the repair. What a joke.

I can do oil changes myself. That's not hard. I actually enjoy that kind of work. The car was purchased with 40,000 miles on it. Had the issue at 62,000 miles. Serious joke. If anything broke on the car, I brought it to the dealer. Just cause I didn't do oil changes at the dealer and because the car wasn't purchased at a dealer. I had the car bone stock when the valve broke.

$3,700 later, this will be the last MINI me or my family will purchase. I'm so done with the horrible reliability

Hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

Well they need to prove it and not just assume, so get it in writing why the tune caused the engine to blow and then go to the tuner to see if they will cover it. You may need a lawyer to look into helping you with the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuso...s_Warranty_Act
You may need to contact the FTC http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles...ne-maintenance

Sorry it has not worked out for either of you, but in BOTH cases, if MINI had stepped in, it would have been PURELY goodwill.
With goodwill, MINI wants to be 100% sure the issue is the result the OEM.....lets face it...anything that could contribute to the issue that occurred can make them say, maybe it would have been fine if not modded. Sure the warranty is 100% over, but just like us, they expect a properly maintained motor to last quite a bit longer.....
It the fact a tune WAS run at some point is just an excuse, as is an aftermarket IC..but out of warranty, they can do as they please. Anything they do is done for PR purposes....largely in hopes you will but another NEW car from them....so a individual who bought NEW imo has a MAJOR advantage here.
Good Luck to both of you...and a reminder, MAJOR repair work is best kept (IMO) away from dealers since they have high labor rates, and (generally) the LEAST experienced mechanics around (fact of life, most dealers hire new mechanic out of tech school, and train them on their make)...heck many dealers SUBCONTRACT OUT MAJOR work to 3rd parties! Those 3rd parties are the LOCAL independent shops.....

+1 I agree 100%. I can't believe they said "they think", that's not a good enough answer.

I brought it to the dealership actually because I thought that the HPFP went again. I was also banking on MINI USA stepping in becaus this is so rare. I would have preferred an Indy shop.

Also bringing it to the dealer is a benefit for me because I'm 23 years old, and renting a car for a week would have been extremely expensive while waiting to get the car fixed. Really sorry to say that this is the last MINI ill own.

Sorry to hear that they won't help you out. Its really a crap shoot. My car is tuned and has all kinds of mods. My clutch went out at 27k miles. You could not even put it in gear. I had it towed to the dealer where I purchased the car and have it serviced. I was all set for a huge fight with them and MINI. They call me back 2 days later and said come pick it up we replaced the clutch under a one time good will repair.

Just because you don't do oil changes at Mini is pure crap, that doesn't mean anything! I do my own oil changes because I prefer to let the oil drain for an hour, I want all of the old oil out.

I have a 6-year/100,000 mile warranty on my MCS, if I continue to do my own oil changes while noting the date and mileage with a receipt for oil and filter would Mini be alright with that? Every non repair that is not a warranty issue, (normal wear & tear) I have everything in a book with receipts.
