R56 What gauges are you running?
My Bentley Manual states the following for the N16 and N18 engines: "Oil pump output is based on the characteristic map within the ECM and feedback from the oil pressure sensor." The manual also shows on the elecrtical diagrams a engine oil pressure sensor B6571a. The manual shows the location of the pressure switch for the N12 and N14 engines but does not give different switch or sensor locations for the N16 and N18 engines. They may have replaced the pressure switch with a pressure sensor on the newer engines. The wiring diagrams for the N12 and N14 show a pressure switch B6231.

i am going to talk to a mechanic at the dealer and get to the bottom of the oil pressure and temperature issue

Did you receive your gauges yet? Will they be easy to install? Looking forward to seeing pictures. 
I used ABS, rather than PVC plastic, because it is already colored black, I polished the printing off of the pipe pods and waxed them, they came out real nice and there's no paint that could eventually peel off.
I installed the oil temperature gauge because of discussions I read on these forums. Manufacturers don't install oil temperature gauges, at least I've never seen one in any production car, so I've had no experience tracking oil temperature, I was disappointed that it gave me no useful information.
I don't track my car, maybe if I did, I'd see a difference in temperature between the oil and the water. Even with spirited street driving, my oil and water temperature gages read about the same. For me, the oil temperature gauge is unnecessary. I'll keep it for a balanced look until I get the water/meth injection system.

Not sure where you live but the oil temp gauge can be an engine saver in hot regions. My 2010 Camaro SS RS has an OT gauge and it was a wake up call one day when running some back roads and I didn't realize the ambient air temp was well over 100 degrees. I've since installed an oil cooler in that car. The tuned 6.2 liter does run hot when your getting on it. Maybe the mini does not run as hot but with a turbo I think the risk of high oil temp is real.
