Can the factory fork mounted bike rack fit a mountain bike?

Second that question.

Plus: Is it easily removable. Any side effects like noise or decreased mpg?

Photos anyone?

yes, but it is utter garbage. The front wheel holder is worthless. I would go with some other brand.

Since we know nothing of your expertise, educational background, mechanical aptitude and.....you are also new here....Maybe you can further elaborate on the garbage part you mention.

And most folks don't bother with the front wheel holder either...just put it inside the MINI.

If my engineering degree is to be ignored, I have raced bikes since I was a weee child and have seen many bike racks. The part that holds the bike itself is great for a 9mm QR, as long as you have an adapter if you are running a 15mm or 20mm through axle then it will work just fine. The front wheel holder is very flimsy and made me nervous having a $500 wheel just lolling side to side on my roof. Plus the QR was always coming loose no matter how tight or what skewers I used. I removed my back seat because I never use it so the front wheel fits perfectly in the back seat area standing up against the passenger side. If you are on a budget then roll with the MINI brand, if not, drop the coin on a KUAT, way nice rack. I also bought some giant green twist tie thingys at walmart to lash the crank to the chain stay so that the pedals wouldn't swing down and rattle on the roof. Hope this answers your questions Mr. Modd-erator.
