R56 I want to make some car ramps
Possibly... Would recommend checking out some Rhino Ramps before going through the trouble, though - they should work unless you're slammed. I think most auto parts places carry them.
They'll work ... sure ...
everything that follows is opinion ;-} alto I like DIY projects I'm not sure this is one I'd go for tho:
Rhino ramps are $45 (average), even for the longer ones for low vehicles
by the time I buy all that lumber I'm thinking I'm not saving money {I'll admit, I've also seen low angle ramps at $400 or more!}
. . . plus they'll be heavy as heck
and more difficult to store cuz of the length
but if they rock your boat, sure they'll work.
But then I have never found a need for ramps anyway, it is quick and easy to jack up a corner or one entire end and slide in a stand or two. takes me no more time than finding and setting up the ramps would. and while on stands for an oil change it is easy to pop a wheel to check the pads....or shift to lifting an entire side and rotate the tires. Ramps just get in the way for that. I bought a floor jack and stands for less than $50 10 years ago and they still do the job. I can't think of a single job that I'd do with ramps that I could not do with a jack and stands, but several going the other way....
but that's just me unsolicited two cents and no change is expected on this transaction.
Lastly, if talking oil, I can get an oil catch pan under my 07 without lifting it at all, plenty of room to still get at the bung!
p.s. ya gots to clean up your post. it is almost impossible to read. try going back to the source and copy the text as 'plain text' since the format conversion isn't working well.
p.s.2 I'm a hobby welder and making a set of ramps is a common learning project for welding students. but I've never made a set cuz like I said, I just use my jack ... maybe I'd see this differently if I'd bent something with my jack.
p.s.3 IF I WAS going to do this and I was drilling pilot holes anyway .... I'd put 'em together with (countersunk) wood screws, or [better] decking screws. The wood IS going to warp over time, and dry out and then nails loosen. Screw 'em together ... consider 'liquid nails' as a bonding agent on top of that and then paint 'em a couple of coats in hopes of sealing the wood to slow down the shrinkage and warping.

+1. Clean up that post.
Unless your MINI is lowered, a normal set of Rhino Ramps will work.
If you happen to have a lot of scrap 2x12 stock laying around, the economics of DIY might make sense. But those ramps are going to be crazy heavy, and take up a lot of space.
