R56 Vinegar smell in A/C and interior vents
Vinegar smell in A/C and interior vents
After a couple weeks of hot humid weather in Southern California, my car developed an odd smell when starting the fan or A/C. It smelled like vinegar of all things. I did a little on-line checking and decided that the most likely cause was mold/mildew. I get a lot of drainage under my car with the A/C running so I don't think the tube was blocked. The cause was most likely condensation on my evaporator had become a home for mold/mildew/bacteria/whatever. I stopped by the neighborhood auto store and got a A/C duct cleaner ($8). I followed the instructions and sprayed the cleaner in the exterior and interior vents and ran the A/C with the fan. Within a few minutes the smell was gone and it was just as nice the next morning. Hopefully I got it. That was easy!
