Looking for info/advice on replacing a speaker.

Greetings;

I have a 2007 Mini Cooper S, that I purchased with the upgraded 10 speaker audio system. Recently one of the speakers, the lower of the two speakers in the passenger door, has started to produce a distinct and loud buzzing/vibrating noise that I believe indicates that the cone has been damaged.

So I need to replace that speaker. Can anyone tell me what part number I should look for? I have always been happy with the performance of the speakers, and have no real desire to upgrade anything I am just looking to return to previous functionality.

Secondly, is there a guide anywhere on replacing the speaker? Is that something that a non-car guy could attempt or is it the kind of thing where I would do more harm than good?

Thanks for any advice.

Actually, this is very annoying and very normal. I noticed it the day I bought my car. What it ended up being was the speaker cover around the speaker was coming in contact with the speaker cone when it would move as air rushed through it when music was playing. I even brought it to my MINI dealership and they said "don't turn up your music. Problem solved" Idiots.

I went home, took the cover off. Immediately noticed no buzzing noises. I then put felt tape all around the speaker cover except the very middle and then BARELY attached the speaker cover so it would stay on when you close the doors but wasn't all the way on. I haven't noticed buzzing since.

Good luck.

You really should replace both lower door speakers with the Harmon Kardon units from the 2010-current cars. I changed mine out a couple of years ago and they really improve the bass. There is a thread on it under the audio/navigation page. Or, I still have my old ones that I would sell really cheap if you are interested.
