Brake Service

A while ago, I started to get notified that my front brake service was coming up (I'm at about 45,000 now). It was sitting at 370 miles for a week or so. Then today while driving all of a sudden the "BRAKE" light came on in the tach display as if the parking brake was on. But the service/lift symbol also came on in the area on the tach. And the miles until service is now -10. I assume this is just related to the front brakes? 2009 Cooper S.

You can access the service menu to see which sensor the MINI thinks has tripped - front, rear or both. Even at that, I'd highly recommend a visual inspection.

I suggest getting it in to have the brakes taken care of ASAP.
Maybe a sensor tripped the brake warning?
Are you due for an oil change?
If you scroll through your service menu you may find items other than the brakes.

Oops, just saw jcauseyfd's post.
+1 on that!

Rotors look fine. Pads are worn a bit especially the part on the outer (almost looks like a wedge shape). Can't make it to my Mini service shop for another week. Maybe I should just take it somewhere local to at least give it a quick visual check. There are no other service/warning messages due.

You should be good to go for another week. If the sensor just tripped, you still have a little left before the pads(or whats left of them) start grinding the rotors. If the rotors are still original, they will need to be replaced anyways.

yes they are the original brake rotors. I anticipated replacing them as it would probably prolong the Pads that I will be getting as well.

I did my brakes at 36000 miles. The rotors were at minimum thickness and you wont find anybody that will cut them at min. and you never want to put pads on without cutting or replacing rotors.

Nice to see you got 45k out of original brakes. I though I did good with 36k. I could have squeezed a few more out maybe since my light didnt go on yet.
