differences between R56 and R56N?

I'm about to install a coolant temp and oil pressure gauge on my '12 hardtop. Craven Speed sent me the wrong "tapless" adapter (they immediately shipped me a new one) - the one I got is for the R56. I see that on that model, the oil pressure switch is screwed into the block, whereas on my car, it's next to the oil filter. Does anyone know why this change was made? Is there a list of differences between the R56 and R56N (yes, I searched - a lot)?

Lastly, it appears that there's a plug in my engine block where the oil pressure sensor used to live. I'm thinking I might go ahead and use the R56 tapless adapter and screw it in there - a lot easier to access!
Does anyone have any experience with this or know of any reason not to do it that way?

Thanks.

I don't know the specifics, but since the changes were made for the 2011 model year maybe try searching for release notes on the 2011 - that'd might outline the changes made?
