So reading some more, sounds like my car running into the 230s is on the high end? Really, I should be seeing NO HIGHER than 220-225?

Seems like 2-3 turns should be sufficient.
You could try another turn just keep your hand on it in case it comes out.
Not sure how long the threaded part is on the valve screw.
When it's loose try and move it back and forth, should have a little play.

Fan running and new coolant pump (recall) are not related... either is low coolant level effecting the coolant temp sensor or a bad thermostat.

That's been established. It was just coincidental that the rad. fan started running longer after his aux water pump (to turbo) was installed.

So I drove over to my parents for mothers day lunch, drive was about 45 mins 1 way.

I kept an eye on the temp via that menu, temp was consistently in the 232-234 range. I think it's safe to say, that is pretty much on the high side and something is going on? Especially is "normal" is considered to be in the 220 range.

I ran mine today about the same length of time and my temp showed between 220-225.
When I got home the fan ran for about 45 seconds is all.
How long did your fan run after one trip to your mom's?

I didnt time it, but I know it was at least a few minutes as I could hear it while I am in the kitchen of my place (which is the closest point to where my car is parked)

For some reason I am having this problem, and i know that this car had been recalled also.

Lasted a few minutes, but i drove it hard today, i guess that may have caused it too

^^^ If you are talking about the radiator fan, that is normal. It has nothing to do with the aux water pump recall.

I remember when tuner cars of the 90s it was the cool & popular thing to get, a turbo timer to pull your key out and get out of the car with it still running to allow turbos to cool off properly

Just put mine on finally

and it seems that the fan is not staying on as long. I have only had it on for 2 days so I really can't confirm that yet.

Mine is doing the same thing. I might ask the dealership when I take him in tomorrow.

Well, Way Motor Works has my car right now. So far they have discovered that the coolant temp sensor has failed. So they are working on getting that replaced.

Hopefully that cures my starting issues that I have also been experiencing.

Now, I know that this is a design feature to aide in cooling once the car is off. In the past, I have only noticed it staying on maybe 10% of the time. Now, after the recall work, it seems that it remains on 90% of the time.

Was there also am associated software update that makes the fan stay on longer after the car has been shut down?
I had the same thing happened to me right after the pump recall, i took it to the dealer and it was the temperature sensor that went off, dealership fixed it

You're lucky you live close enough to have Way work on your car.
I don't think it's a common issue with the earlier 2nd gens but they (temp sensors) have been failing on the 2010' and 2011's.
He'll get it.

water pump or thermostat??

I'm having the same issue with something noisy running for a long time after having the recall work done. I can't tell you if it's the fan or the water pump or something else that continues to run, but it is loud and wasn't there before the recall work. However, I also had a leaking thermostat housing replaced at the same time so could it be something wrong with the thermostat replacement and not the aux water pump???

At first I thought it was normal since it made sense to me that the fan running longer would be the solution to the overheating turbo, but now I'm researching it is because my battery just died and I'm trying to determine if the fan/pump running for so long every time I go somewhere has killed the battery and needs to be fixed before it kills another battery.

It's quite possible that the battery was just at it's end, but seems odd that everything is gong wrong at once .... figures though, warranty just expired 6 months ago!! Is there a thread somewhere to tell me what to expect to blow next????

One vote for an temperature sensor.Mine was bad, temps are under 90celsius and fan still runs 5-10 min after I was stoppet car.Easy fix, just take connector and locking pin off, pull sensor out of termostathousing, replacing new O-ring gasket and push new sensor on the hole. then bleeding the coolant system..
