Adding Options

I have a 2007 cooper S and I am wondering if anyone has any good DIY options that can be added on after the fact. My friend just bought a 1 series BMW a has some nice options. I know that BMW does share packages with Mini, I just would like some suggestions as to what some people have added to their Mini and where they got the retrofit at.
Thanks

Anything more specific? With a 2007 almost anything installed at the factory can be retrofitted. (not like my 2010 or later cars.)

What were you looking for?
Bluetooth?
Rear fog lights?

I was thinking of Bluetooth, and rear fog lights. I would also like to add an alarm and see if a rain sensor could be added. The USB adapter looks nice as well.

2nd poster - how come you distinguish 2010s and higher?

MINIs are hugely retrofittable. Now, some stuff is not as plug-and-play as others...

you mentioned the alarm. I've heard that it depends; some cars (I think prior to 2009 roughly?) already had a lot of pre-wiring laid down and you can "plug and play" stuff more easily than those that would need to run a bunch of new wires).

the rain sensor, don't know why but that one might be tricky? try to google or search forum for 'reprogram' and 'rain' perhaps it is something that just needs plugging in the sensor...

BT, its not very worth it, the factory BT audio in (mic) is very weak...

not much knowledge on the others...

For 2010+ they left a lot of the prewiring out. Rear fogs, alarm...

Move the BT mic to the drivers side of the overhead console and it's a lot better. I've got no problem with it at all.

with a 2007 all of that should be plug and play EXCEPT for the USB option. The Radio head unit will not handle the programming for the USB option. I must be a 2008 or later head unit for that to be able to function, but replace the head unit to a later year model and it can be done.

In 2010 they started installing main harnesses that DID NOT have all the accessory wiring in them. Thus making it much more difficult to add options such as Alarm, Bluetooth, Rear Fogs etc.

very true but to add some factory options from 2010 and beyond is proihibitvely expensive when you have to add or change wiring harnesses.

moving the BT mic to the drivers side makes a HUGE difference.
