Mini parts knowledge base

I found this on the internet. Am trying to learn more about the mini engine and car. Is there a way to find out what each part is and what it does ?

Are you familiar with gasoline turbocharged engines?
If so, there's not much difference on the Prince engines.

If not, pick up a internal combustion engines textbook and get to speed on the terminology.
Also, having RealOEM.com and a Bentley Publications service manual at your finger tips will certainly help.

Where are you starting from? What is your current level of automotive/mechanical knowledge?

For really basic things, www.howstuffworks.com has an automotive section that has lots of basic explanations and animations and such. (Like "how a camshaft works".) I personally cut my teeth on John Muir's "VW Idiot Book", which explains a lot of things about a very simple car (old-school aircooled VW Bug) in very straightforward language. Might be worth a look; just remember that things are quite different between a ~1940s-tech economy-minded "people's car" and a ~2000s-tech "premium compact" car.

If you're starting from more than the basics, then Erik's suggestions are very good.
