Ok, sorry if this is a dumb question. My previous car was an 03' S and on the tachometer when you turned the headlights on and the dash lights came up the the redline on the tach was actually lit up bright red as opposed the the orange numbers before it hit the redline. BUT, on the new '12 S Clubman I just got, the redline is just a darker orange, not that much of a difference between the previous numbers. It makes it kind of hard to distinguish when you're about to hit redline (besides the fact you're pushing 6,500rpm ) Is everyone else's tach the same way or maybe I have a factory defect?

 

They are the same, but there is no reason to take it to redline. The engine isn't making more power. In fact it's falling off pretty quickly above 5500 prm. Just go ahead and shift.

I think I have been misunderstood. I'm not talking about taking the rpm's to redline. I'm talking about the visual look of the tachometer in the 2012 S vs. the look of the tachometer in the 03 S. When you turn the lights on the dash and it lights up the tachometer in 03 S, the redline area are actually lit up in red lights. On the 2012 tachometer, they are not, they are just a dark dull orange. The redline isn't red. It's orange. Anyone with a 2012 S have the same visual look of the tach with a dark orange "redline"??? OR, maybe the factory didn't install the lights properly on my tachometer?
