Water in Boot

Hey everyone,

Anyone ever heard of there being water in the boot after a huge rain storm? I pulled out my sub box and found a giant puddle in the boot, water in the back seat, and water on the carpet where the rear passengers' feet sit.

I think I'm going to have to go to the dealer on this one...

its the gasket around the hatch....either buy a new one or re-seat it. somehow the water is finding its way under the gasket slowly leaking inside. it was hard to believe but it does happen.

i had the same thing happen and it was a pain in the butt to find it until i stripped the whole rear and had my brother pour water around the hatch door.

That's a lot of water... I'm talking at least half a gallon. It managed to reach the front seat. I also looked around, it managed to rust out the back seat and even after drying for a couple hours, is still soaked. I think I might have to replace that too.

I've taken the gasket off many times, so I don't doubt that that's part of the problem, but really, it was a LOT of water. I noticed that there are some flaps between the boot and the bumper which I believe are meant to allow air to escape the boot, but not allow water to enter. I'm also guessing that there might have been some water entering from there?

I think I see a problem with the rear hatch seal theory. Given that water always runs downhill, to get to the floorboard in the backseat....wouldn't it have to climb over the hump where the seat backs mount?
Maybe a side window seal, or some other junction that spans entries for both bays.

I see from your signature you have Premium so could it be the sunroof - rear panel? Possibly a clogged drain related to sunroof? Was the car just sitting parked when the water accumulated or were you driving?

I was thinking possibly sun roof seal if you have a sun roof.
Check your headliner.

I'm thinking that it's the sunroof too. It rained a LOT these past few weeks in Dallas and it wouldn't surprise me if that was the case. I didn't drive it a lot since I'm at work most of the day, so it makes sense that the sun roof leaking would be the cause. I'll let you all know what it turns out to be. I wonder if the water damaged any of the comfort access antennas...

Turns out it was the sunroof drain tubes. The dealer had to partially strip the car to get everything put back together. No harm, no foul, though. As it turns out my car started leaking oil the night before, so I had the dealership look at it and apparently the casing for the timing chain was leaking! If the car hadn't flooded, I would've probably done some serious damage to the car!

I have a 2012 Clubman S that came over from England with water in the boot. It leaks every time we get a hard rain. I can duplicate the leak every time by using a garden hose on a specific spot on the back of the car (not across the top where all Clubmans can exhibit a leak if water is applied). It has been to the dealer 5 times now since January and they have replaced the door gasket at least twice and adjusted the door alignment. They will not listen to me on how to test their attempt at repairing the car... obviously because it still leaks each time I get it back. I get the feeling MINI Clubmans may be leaking out there that people are unaware of as they do not use their boot very often. Just curious if people are checking their boots!
