My windshield is heavily pitted, repair/replace??

Is it worth it even to replace? I'm assuming that the problem will repeat itself based on the sharp angle of it.

It will become pitted again, yes. But the clarity you'll enjoy in the meantime is well worth it. You don't realize how bad it's gotten till you get the new one!

I have $100 deductible on my insurance, so I get a new one every two or three years.....

Replacement is the only real solution. In the short term, try a couple of applications of RAIN-X. Seems to help.

I was looking into clearplex when I replaced my BMW E46's windshield. The problem I was running into was that no local glass shop installs this product.

I'm in need of a windshield replacement.

Funny all the things it says it does are all things the window does already. UP Protection, YEP. Protect family from failure, YEP. No film is going to really protect your glass from a rock at a 120 mph (the speed of the rock to you, and you to the rock).

I have a zero deductible. My 2008 Altima is on its 3rd, 04 XTerra on the 3rd, and when I had my 99 Beetle, 5th. Just comes with 25k miles a year.

tailgating? j/k

I do the same mileage as well. My 03 Altima had windshield replacement every year of ownership. 2005 to 2012.

I wonder...is it the angle, or is the glass soft? No matter that it is as clean as possible, when I drive into the sun, at certain angles, mine is so pitted it is unbelievable. Oh BTW, I have 39,000 miles on it.

Doesn't replacing your windshield over and over on your insurance make your premiums increase?

I think its a combo of the angle and soft glass. I have 38K on MCS.

I didn't but I waited for it have an actual crack in it before claiming it.

Comprehensive claims don't generally increase your premium but this really depends on the state you live in.

Just a couple of points...

No rock is going to be coming at you at 60mph, unless someone shoots it at you. So 120Mph closing rate isn't very likely. Usually rocks fall of trucks or trailers, bounce around, get your attention, then you sit there pretty hopeless as you watch it bounce and then smash into the windshield or some other part of your car.

Multiple comp claims will eventually make your rates go up.

Yes, combination of vertical angle, and lots of crap on the roads.

Really does depend on your state. In Mass you could get two windshields per year I believe and your rates could not be raised.

Not sure about MD as I haven't really checked but there are other states in which comp claims won't affect your rates.

Not sure that it matters, (or even correct) but the glass man I spoke to said the MINI glass is hard... brittle. So combined with the steep angle of the windshield they are going to get pits.

Mine is full of them too.

If you go aftermarket, get PPG glass. It is pretty much the same that MINI uses. I have found that the other glass is crappy. I had them remove two of them due to warped fields in the glass. Only the PPG was good to go.
