I cleaned my exhaust tips this morning. Only 775mi on the car. The right tip was easy, single wipe with a wet paper towel. The left was a bear. It still has some stain on it. I have some chrome cleaner I use on the Harley that I'll be using on that left tip this weekend. I guess a weekly wipe down will be in order. I cannot stand that soot look.

Try using Master Formula Metal Gloss polish, it's $30 dollars a bottle but gets your chrome shiny much faster than anything I have ever used. I use it on my soot covered tail pipes, Sport Mode really helps on long steep hill climbs though!

Did a search and glad to see my concern is a common one.

For what it's worth Windex and a paper towel does a great job and it's a lot cheaper than ^.

Quite honestly, a damp rag or paper towel every couple of days keeps the tailpipe squeaky clean. No need for metal polish, Windex, or any other cleaner.

Yup. I go through half a paper towel each Saturday or Sunday and a bit of water. no cleaner necessary.

Note to self: only do this before driving, not after.

My exhaust tips are always black before I wash them, but now they're nice and shiny. Soapy water and a towel works great. I average 20 mpg, is 27 really that bad?

When I bought my used '12 MCS last year, I wondered about the soot in the exhaust tips. Whenever I saw another MCS in a parking lot, I'd take a look. Sure enough, they all have it..

Thanks for the reminder, I'll go out and clean mine right now! Wet paper towels work well for me, but on occasion if the soot is thick, I'll rub on a thick slurry of Bar Keepers Friend and rinse.
