Next Scheduled Service?

My 2011 MC hardtop was serviced on 29 Nov by the dealer at the 1-yr point w/4600 miles; it now has 4800 miles. I just noticed in the Tach's display that the next service due shows 12,000 miles/Sept 2012. Doesn't make sense - shouldnt' it be 15,000/Nov 2012?

You need to access the service menu to figure out which service items are reporting 12,000 miles and which are reporting Sept.2012.

If the 12k miles is for the oil change, that is probably correct - the 12,000 it thinks you can go plus the 4,000 you already have would be about 16k miles. The dealer shouldn't have reset the counter after doing the oil change.

The mileage part is "miles til service" the number is CBS, condition based service. It could be as low at 13k miles or as high as 23k miles depending on conditions (these numbers are approximate, not hard-fast numbers, based upon driving habits, time, etc.) The date I cannot explain, maybe they did not reset the interval.

This I am not so sure about, if the service was done, why would they then not reset it?

I'm assuming that the OP took the MINI in for service at the one year anniversary even though the CBS counter was not indicating a service was due ("at the 1-yr point"). The CBS counter is counting down to Inspection I which includes not only an oil change, but a host of other stuff as well.

The one year oil change that MINI does before the counter indicates a service is due is just like the folks who do oil changes on some other interval than what the CBS is indicating If the counter is reset, then that CBS based service just gets pushed further out.

The OPs dealer may have even done some other courtesy stuff as well. But I got the impression that the OP received service based on MINIs commitment to provide an oil change at one year intervals even if the CBS mileage has not been reached.

Sorry for causing some confusion about the 1-yr service on my MC hardtop. This car was 13 months old when I bought it from an auto broker, but right before my purchase I had the a Mini dealer perform a comprehensive used car inspection and the dealer also noted that the car needed the 1-year service/maintenance performed, which they did in conjunction with the inspection. Now when I first put the key in to start the ignition, the display says the next service is due in 12000 miles/Sept 2012. I thought it should read 15000/Nov 2012. I hope this better clarifies my post.

It's probably pulling the service info for when the brake fluid change is due, every 2 years. You need to put the key in, and press the starter with the clutch out (so the motor doens't start) then scroll to the service info menu and check which service will be due then.
